As Particle Analytical celebrates its 25th anniversary, we sat down with founder and CEO, Søren Kristensen, to reflect on the journey, achievements, and the future of solid-state characterization.
A vision born from curiosity
“25 years ago, the industry relied heavily on microscopy, believing we had full control. But when we introduced new techniques, we realized we had data—but not real information. That discovery was a turning point. I saw a clear need for deeper particle characterization, impacting everything from process efficiency to patient safety. And so, Particle Analytical was born.”
Milestones & Achievements
Particle Analytical has been instrumental in advancing solid-state analysis – transforming it from an underappreciated niche into a recognized industry standard.
“In the early days, we spent a lot of time convincing customers, why particle characterization mattered. Today, it’s an integral part of pharmaceutical production and regulatory compliance. One of our proudest moments was passing an FDA inspection with no observations – an achievement that validated our commitment to excellence.”
The company’s success is built on partnerships with scientists and businesses worldwide. “Gaining the trust of clients across different industries and countries has been incredibly rewarding. Being recognized as a GMP specialized laboratory in this field is something we take pride in.”
Evolving with the Industry
The demand for solid-state characterization has grown significantly.
“We no longer need to justify its importance – regulatory agencies now require it. What’s exciting is seeing how characterization is expanding into new areas of pharmaceutical development. The focus has shifted from whether to analyze to how deeply we can understand.”
What sets Particle Analytical apart?
Unlike other laboratories, Particle Analytical is solely dedicated to solid-state characterization.
“It’s not just one of many services—it’s our entire focus. This specialization allows us to approach problems differently, using a three-dimensional mindset that goes beyond standard chemical analysis.”
Diversity is another strength.
“With employees from over 14 different countries, we bring a global perspective to our work. This helps us understand cultural differences and better support clients worldwide.”
Looking ahead
The future of Particle Analytical is about deeper integration with pharmaceutical companies and regulatory agencies.
“We aim to be the go-to laboratory for solid-state characterization, expanding geographically and pioneering new techniques. There’s still much to explore – better imaging, new analytical methods and stronger regulatory collaborations. The goal is always the same: improving product quality and ensuring patient safety.”
As Particle Analytical marks 25 years, the journey of pharmaceutical innovation continues – driven by curiosity, expertise and a commitment to making a difference in pharmaceutical science.
