FTIR Spectroscopy

Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy is a powerful technique for identifying and characterizing chemical bonds in pharmaceutical materials. It provides detailed molecular information by measuring how compounds absorb infrared light at different wavelengths.

At Particle Analytical, we use the Shimadzu IRTracer-100 FTIR with the SPECAC Golden Gate ATR unit – offering high resolution in measuring infrared spectra at wavenumbers between 7800 and 350 cm⁻¹ in compliance with Ph. Eur. 2.2.24

How Particle Analytical can assist with FTIR Spectroscopy

  • Molecular Structure Identification and Confirmation
Provides detailed identification of molecular bonds, helping to identify and confirm the structure of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients, and impurities.
  • Polymorph Analysis
Detects polymorphic forms and provides information on polymorphic impurities of pharmaceutical substances, which impacts quality, stability and performance.
  • Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis
Offers opportunities to develop both quantitative and qualitative analytical methods, determining compound concentrations and verifying product composition.
  • Compatibility Studies
Can be used to assess the compatibility of APIs and excipients, ensuring no adverse chemical interactions during formulation.
  • Contaminant Detection
Identifies the presence of impurities or contaminants in pharmaceutical products and raw materials, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Quality Control Support
Ensures the molecular composition and polymorphic form of pharmaceutical materials is consistent, supporting batch-to-batch uniformity and regulatory requirements.
